The reverse side of the Mexican gold coin bullion shows a standing eagle with a serpent wrapped around his full body clasping the tail in its mouth. Two olive branches are below the eagle as if he is standing on them. The words "ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS" which simply stands for MEXICO is on the top of the coin.

Mexican Gold 50 Peso History

The first Mexican gold peso coin was minted In 1921 to celebrate 100 years of Mexican independence. 1821 is the year Mexico got independence after winning the war against Spain. Though this coin has been minted after independence, the coin is highly influence by Spanish culture. In the Aztec era which was an ethnic tribe in central Mexico during 14th to 16th century were wandering in the desert for 200 years. In the end they found Tenochtitlan which is now Mexico City. Here they saw an eagle and snake. All this is part of mythology and the symbols represented on the Mexican Peso.

After the introduction of the 1 oz South African Krugerrand in 1970, the large Mexican gold coins lost their demand. The common trade for the price of gold became 1 ounce and was adopted by other countries that later produced there own bullion such as the Canadian gold maple leaf, American gold eagle and Austrian gold.

Today the Mexican gold peso is rapidly becoming popular as gold investors, countries, corporations and individuals are looking to buy gold in larger amounts to offset inflation. The only gold bullion coins that have more than one ounce and is recognized internationally for it's weight and value are the Mexican gold coins.
